    I'm on my 2nd Cube

Started with an AMS Pro 100 R1 & now have a Cube Sting Pro HPC (traded the AMS in as it was too racey for my riding)

Good value for money, ride well, look stunning, well built.

The AMS 130 gets good reviews IIRC

Well worth a test ride if you can find a shop with one in to test

  • Andy,

Have you seen any reviews on the net for the 2012 AMS 130SL? When you say the AMS was to racey, in what way. I have managed by the look of things managed to get a good deal on the new bike and got it for £1840 from £2199 dont think i will pick up a better bike for the price i am paying.

I was nervous when I was advised to look at them by a friend who stocked them in his shop but only because it was a name I hadn't heard of before.

I did alot of internet research but didn't find a great deal of info on them but thought if my friend sells & recommends them, then they can't be that bad.

Anyways I test rode an AMS 125Pro and walked out of the shop with the bike under my arm  .

In my last 14months of ownership all I've changed is the brakes from Hayes Stroker Trails to Shimano XT's and that was only because I didn't like the feel from the Hayes.

  • That's a good price for the Sl, cracking spec on it! There may have been a review on singletrack for the 2012. Generally favourable. Mate is buying the 130 @ the end of Jan, can't wait to have a go on it!
  • Cheers guys.
  • Cube are very very decent prices for what you get, look amazing, and basically i'm just re-iterating what everyone else has said, so i'll shut up haha.

divingmoose I found the AMS 100 too racey for my riding as it's a xc/race bike, which isn't really what I ride most of the time, the Sting is more XC/Trail/marathon bike which is what I ride. It was too long in the top tube and not as confident as I wanted on the techy downhill stuff, then again it's not what the 100 was really designed for

The AMS 130 is slacker in geometry than the AMS 100 as it's a xc/trail/AM bike, When I bought the AMS 100 I had an Orange 5 so getting another 130/140mm travel susser wasn't on the list, I wanted something with a little less travel & chose the AMS 100 to compliment the Orange 5 as I was doing a fair bit of long distance timed events and the 5 was too much bike for those events. I then sold the 5 and the AMS100 & bought a Sting Pro, which suits me perfectly

I've not seen any 2012 AMS 130 SL reviews yet, but as it's based on last years AMS 130 with a couple of minor frame tweaks it'll ride the same as the 2011 version, I believe that Bikeradar tested the 2011 AMS 130, all the AMS 130 frames are the same, just differing levels of kit on them so the ride is very similar through the range

  • I had an AMS 100 for a while. Great bike for the money and the only change that I 'needed' to make to it was the brakes. The hayes strokers were totally rubbish so I replaced with a set of Avid elixers which transformed the bike. My only issue was that my riding started to get a little more vertical and so started to struggle a little because of the short travel...I fancied moving up to 160mm to start my route towards DH and always lusted after a Fritzz. In the end I saw a great deal on a Remedy 8 and so plumped for that but I'll always have a soft spot for Cubes

    I miss you darling

  • Nice looking bike
  • I have a stereo had it for just over a year now and it is a great ride, the only thing i have changed so far is a shorter stem and some riser bars, also put a dropper post on for getting down and when trying to get air, i think it is a tad on the heavy side but it does climb really well and they are good looking bikes.

  • I bought a cube acid and had it 6 weeks before a frame bent.

Took it back and the frame was replaced under warranty within a few days, can't fault that service.

I have a friend with a reaction, that's been hammered and it's still like new, bloody quick bike too.

    Great bikes.
  • Cheers guys
  • The guy I do most of my riding with has had a few and loves them. Only ridden his once or twice, but seemed nice, well specced for the money AFAIK.
