I have the Superstar XC rims (although AM rims would also be worth looking at) on Switch Evo hubs. You can specify what hub you need but they can be changer over later should your needs change. Price is £150 or £160 depending on XC or AM rim choice for the set. Or spend more for some colour coordinated bling :) . My riding is similar to what you mention and the wheels have held up well so far with about 5 hours a week of use.
    Current bikes:

    Boardman HT Comp 2010
    GT Avalance 1.0 2006(ish)

Bigpee out of interest whats the weight of your superstar wheels? Was looking at getting a set to replace my Mavic XC717 rims on Deore hubs from 2006. But unsure whether its worth it if there isnt much weight difference or better pick up from the hubs!

I had a pair a few years back on my Meta 6 and they were super tuff and stood up to the likes of Cwm Carn with ease.

If the world was flat, I wouldn't be riding !
  • Superstar AM is the obvious VFM answer. Very good wheels at ridiculously good prices.

I have in honesty not weighed them. I think they list the weight on the Superstar website. For me I was sold on the value, good reviews in MBUK, interchangeable hubs and colour coding (went for white rims, red spokes and white hubs which believe it or not work very well with my bike) rather than any weight savings.

another one worth looking into, thanks Pudsey... i wonder how the wiegh up against the likes of the superstar wheels sets, the reason being, steel frame, RS Lyriks arent the lightest as it is so i'll need to watch what im doing, im trying to make it well built but not a PITA to get uphill, need to try and find out wieghts now....never thought i would find my self bothered about it, mind i could loose another stone lol
  • You can get stans flow on superstar switch EVO hubs, various axle fittings. £220 they are pre built and have a limited selection of hub colours though. Would normally be £274.
