FSA chainring

Hi,

I want to switch from three chainrings to one and i was thinking of buying this FSA chainring with the 36 teeth option. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=28192

I have an 8 speed cassette. Wanted to ask whether having only one chainring will be a problem for the chain as I want to be able to shift in all 8 gears? I ride XC.

Any suggestions of chain guides and bash guards are welcome.
