rear mech replacement advice

Another question peeps as I look to replace worn out bits on my Saracen.

I have bought some secondhand 3x7 shimano shifters. They're different to my current ones in that each time you push the thumb lever for higher gears you can go through 2 gears at a time not just the one.

So I want to replace the rear mech now and wondered if there was a specific kind of mech to work with this type of shifter? I haven't got a clue tbh :?

Thanks Naffa
Cheers Nathan.

    Your rear mech is a?

You have how many cogs on the cassette?

Currently the rear mech is shimano acera and 7 cogs on the rear cassette.

There is play in the rear mech and in the jockey wheels so I think it needs replacing, I just want to be sure that theres no compatability issues with the shifters I've fitted.

Any Shimano mech advertised as 7, 8 or 9 speed work.

Including your current one........replacement jockey wheels are dirt cheap, but if there is wear in the pivots it looks like you need a new one.

    Thanks lads.
I've noticed theres wear in the pivots so its time for a new one I think.

Just wondering if this one will work as its advertised as Shimano 7 speed compatible?

Very recently had a new chain and cassette fitted too.

    Thanks Naffa

You say you've noticed 'wear' in the pivots. Are you having shifting problems or do you just feel a bit of play, as there will be some. That Suntour is pretty rubbish.

Otherwise spend a bit more and get a Deore.

With Cooldad, Shimano Deore is the lowest worth getting.

    Well priced LX here

An 8 or 9 speed can be used on 7 when correctly adjusted before you ask!

Yes there are problems with the shifting.

I've got a Deore front mech to go on aswell so probably will look for a Deore rear.

Thank you for all the answers :)
