  • ive looked at the pdf manuals and cant see any info on the subject im looking for but front hub has 20mm written on it, im wondering if you can remove the 9mm QR fitings

they are 2010/11 the ones with red decals, bought new this year though hence why im unsure of exact year

The Fulcrum wheels are advertised as being stiffer due to the 20mm diameter front hub, it's nothing to do with being able to take a 20mm axle though......although as Nick says some can (like the OE on some Lapierre) you ned to confirm it, it saying 20mm doesn't help!

  • yeah it does not help, im guessing it does not convert as i cant seem to find the info, ive just sold them and will get a set that can do 20mm

you wont find it on Fulcrums website

    the short answer is no

they will take 15mm QR, but not 20mm, despite their size

i had a similar question with my RM3s

it took around 15 emails to pretty much every European distributor to find out that you can in fact convert front hubs to take 15mm QR. However, if you ask the UK distributor, they will deny this as they aren't allowed, by Fulcrum, to recommend this.

Fulcrum sell complete wheels that take 15mm QR or standard 9mm QR. Reality is that the hubs are both the same, but with a different axle. To convert you need to buy a 15mm QR axle, which costs around £130 from memory.

TBH I bet he 20mm axel they do do will work but as I am not in a position to strip down a hub and try some one else will have ago.

    @£130 for an axle I wouldn't bother

    the axle isnt really 20mm

the outside diameter of the axle is 20mm, but the internals are smaller

i guess you could use the hub without an axle i.e. using the Maxle instead, but i dont think you would get a very good seal from the outside, plus the edge of the hub wont sit flush with the forks

i should highlight that what i said depends on what model wheels you have

if you have 2010 wheels, then you need a new axle

if you have 2011, you just need the conversion kit (i have one spare if anyone wants one)
  • interesting :)
