New Revs for P7 but a few questions?

Folks,
Thinking of getting new Revelations for my P7 to replace a set of Toras. My current forks are QR but I was thinking I should probably get 15mm forks when I'm replacing. I know I'll need a new front wheel but that's fine. Is it worth getting the 15mm?
Looking at RL's at Merlin as they seem a good deal. Is the allen key adjustment much of a hassle? The RLT is out of stock but is it worth waiting for them to get more?
Cheers

Speaking from experience the QR Revs are horrible noodly things and fitting a basic QR on such a sublime fork is a travesty.
Although you may need a new front wheel I wouldn't hesitate to get the 15mm through axle. If you don't you'll spend every ride wishing you had. The forks themselves are superb but the thin narrow-wall stanchions need help to keep them tracking up-and-down instead of backwards and forwards and side-to-side.0 -
as .blitz says the QR Revs flex when pushing hard in corners, 15mm axle will make the front end a lot stiffer and less likely to flex and its a easy job to get the maxle set up.0

Disagree, i think it depends a lot on your weight. I have 9mm (not the standard 5mm) QR revs and im 70kg fully kitted up, they track better than my old 20mm pikes did. Setup also plays a lot into this. I can't see how an extra 6mm of diameter could offer noticeably more stiffness, when the dual air and motion control can be tuned to make the fork track brilliantly anyway.
Of course if you are heavy this is a different matter. Go for the weight saving if youre light.0 -

my weight is 80k-85k and the fork would flex in corners, setup correctly or not it all depends on how hard your pushing the fork, the maxle version is a lot stiffer, it may still flex but no were near as much as a QR version.
The motion control and the tracking of the fork are brilliant but they still flex.0 -

my hecklers back end was flexy with a normal qr.. could feel it really bad when ridng hard.. i put a 10mm bolt through hub/axel on it and it made a massive difference, no more flex...
same with my forks but they were fox talasr 32.. a normal qr could feel them flex when riding hard,, i replaced them with a 36 talas r with a 20mm and the difference was noticable. i weigh 68 kg,, so not really that heavy..
he may not need a new wheel my hope pro 2 just needed to swap the adapters from qr to 20mm
same on our kids nukeproof generator hub, just swap the adaptors..www.bearbackbiking.com

I had rev's with a 20mm maxle and they flexed more than my tapered Reba's with 9mm QR.
Difference between 9mm and 15mm is negligible as far as I know, i'd be looking at 20mm...
edit: oh and if you can, save for revs with Blackbox damping.
Motion Control is good, but Blackbox is simply outstanding (i've had the race and the team revs).0 -
I've got 150mm Rev RLT Ti's on a Carbon 456 with 20mm maxle lite. They feel a hell of a lot stiffer than the 9mm QR 100mm Rebas on my old Boardman, the front feels like it's on a rail when pushing hard. That comparison is between different bikes, rather than different forks, so treat it with scepticism!0

Out of interest, are the reba's 1 1/8th or tapered?
Had this discussion with SuperSonic a while back and started discussing that the tapered headtube could be more effective at reducing flex depending on where the forces are coming from and what sort of riding you're doing!
Problem is I'm crap at physics so I have no idea0 -
Cheers folks. Thanks for the advice. Reckon I'll get the 15mm and then get a new front wheel - no big deal. Not needing to get anything too fancy as current wheels are Deore/mavic 317's. Maybe look at something around an SLX or XT 15mm hub. Heard mention of the flexy QR version a few times now so would prefer to avoid. I'm also not the lightest at 90kg!
Not 100% sure whether to buy now with the Merlin price or wait until January and see what deals are around. I'm in no rush but the current Merlin price is very good! Only I can make that decision ;-)
Thanks again :-)

Fox's QR15 is pretty ineffectual but the 15mm maxle seems a bit better. Course, QR15's hampered by being in a flexier chassis in the first place with the 32s.
The old QR Revelation was a pretty solid thing but the current one is a bit flexier... Not sure it'd be enough to actually bother me, I didn't get enough time on it to decide, but I was aware of it more than I am with my maxle Revs.
thing is, my maxle revs are flexier than my lyriks, but the flex doesn't bother me at all- I'm aware of it when I swap between bikes but it doesn't actually hinder me at all.Uncompromising extremist0
