9 Spd Rear Mech on 8 Spd

Can you use a 9 Spd Rear Mech on a 8 Spd setup.

    normally yes.

    but you do not give much info so the one you are looking at may not work with what you have.

    Sorry,
    I have currently got a Shimano Alivio Rear Mech and was look at a Deore 9 Spd. I have Alivio shifters and shimano rear cassete.
