Social group ride yesterday, fast run back to the coffee shop, buddy didn't see the roadkill wallaby, cartwheeled over it at 50 kmh. Left me with a concrete gutter to crash in. Both of us in hospital with essentially broken necks, well, cracked cervical vertebrae anyway. No permanent damage though at least, just a few months in a brace and rehab. Great way to spend Christmas and summer!!!!

He's got worse than me, poor bloke. Ribs and clavicle busted too, as well as neck.

Laying in hospital bed waiting for the neck brace guy to come and make me one, till then, it's soup through a straw. Bugger!

  • Put it this way: the "Fastest" link in my sig might be changed to "f**#Ed". Don't know how bad the bike damage is till I get outta here.

  • Jeez Cleat, keep it simple please?

Thanks all. Am surprised how little it hurts really. Is that the morphine talking? Wallet pain will be bad I expect. Carbon frame, stem, bars, seat post, saddle, cranks, rims, shifters and almost new Assos Mille bibs and jersey cut off by ambulance officer. That's what made me cry.

So are you going for a carbon or titanium neck brace then?? Hopefully not one of those cheap n nasty plastic braces.

Here's hoping that a nice nurse comes along to give you an uplifting bedbath before long ;) Sounds really nasty overall, bike and body both written off for Christmas :( Get better, and I really hope you don't end up with a sadist as a physio!

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!
  • That is grim! Hope you and your mate make a fast recovery. BTW Merry Christmas :)

Actually thats a great idea. can't you fit a helmet cam to your neck brace -- then when the nurse bends over to fix your pillows - bobs ya pervy uncle.

To misquote Simon & Garfunkle "strummy strummy his neck brace was really a camera strummy strummy"

If you can't get any nurse norks shots (try saying that after a pint of grappa) I'm sure the cleaning ladies will do the deed for a couple of squids and a packet of Bensons.

Just try not to get fat saggy ones.

Nurses first though if you don't mind.

  • Progress!! After 48 hours immobilized on my back staring at the ceiling, I am now sitting in a chair, immobilized and staring at the car crash victim across the room! I think he's Greek, and yesterday the entire population of one of the smaller islands arrived to visit him, all talking at once. Loudly. Well, he is semi-comatose so shouting will clearly help.

I've been promised a wheelchair and got weird looks when I asked was it Campag or Shimano. Schwalbe tyres no less! Wonder what time the corridor crits start?

Wheelspinner - hope that the wheelchair hasn't been used by someone with a severe incontinence problem beforehand. At least using the wheelchair will help develop those weedy roadie triceps ;)
