Okay. First up, I know that Aberdeen is in it's own economic bubble but still........

Christmas shopping tonight, I passed a Rox shop. It is a jewellers, specialising mainly in diamonds.
There was a queue at least 20 long waiting to get into the shop which was already full

Some people are obviously feeling less than others. Or are oblivious at least. (Good Aztec Camera tune, by the way  ).
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

  • Yebbut nobut, the rich are getting richer and shrinking the pot at the same time - it makes the opulence sooo much more satisfying. We're getting too many breadcrumbs, apparently, they want it all. And their wives need precious stones because they see precious little of their husbands'.

If you want to start up a business right now, do it in luxuries.

It seems to be such a contrast.
Shops closing down and re-opened as charity shops, if at all.
Then round the corner, a queue to get in a diamond shop.
    Wierd.

Tis weird indeed, but I sense that the Zeitgeist (Sprechst du Merkelish?) is that the centre no longer holds. The top is commandeering everything from the middle downwards, leaving increasing poverty at the bottom. And the top can now feel really rich and privileged. ''What's the point of being rich if everyone has a reasonable income or job, and what's the point of privilege if the underclass have rights, and what's the point of being Etonian if the others are still eating?'' (Do you speak Cameronian?)
