Hi can anyone make a suggestion.
I am buying my son a new mtb for xmas. he is 11 in march, Currently looking, at
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165499
ive got a boardman pro ht. Just looking for something that he can use too. get involved hope he will love it as much as i do.
i know its apollo but it does have an aluminium frame, so seems a good starting point.
any other suggestions welcome. remember 14" frame 26" wheels and under £200. (already spent to much this xmas as it is).

Ouch! Wait for it...
Can you get away with a second hand bike? I know it's for xmas, but you could get much better value for the budget with second hand.
If you can push the budget to up to £300 there are a lot more new options that would be good.
Try the bike search - http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/categ ... mit=Search
Prices probably cheaper than advertised there too if you shop around.0 -
I have a Marin Pioneer Trail in a 15" frame for sale cost £380 and has been used 5 times by the wife....want £180 if your interested...PM me

If he is only 11 he will be growing like mad the next few years. Don't waste money on a new bike as he'lll grow out of it really quickly. The Apollos are a bit heavy adn the kit on them is bottom of the range - a good second-hand bike would be better option0

I had a Pioneer Trail like that. Rubbish fork but excellent frame so well worth upgrading if he enjoys it and adequate if he doesn't. Nice and light.I don't do smileys.

Most 11 year old will be big enough to ride a small 26er, much better option than a 24 and you should be able to pick up a reasonable used one for the £200.
SimonCurrently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Thanks pudsey, but im in plymouth, lol otherwise would be interested.
Have looked secondhand but not much around and honestly think being a child he is more interested in being brand new than it being lol. a spec' and 'dale. crazy i know.
almost bought a second hand rockhopper, needed a bit of tlc but when went back was gone.
if it was in good nick i think he would be happy with it.
argh decisions decisions. think im going to check gumtree and freeads again.
