Fitting Used Forks

What do I need to check if buying a set of used fork to fit to a Carrera Vulcan (about 4 years old)
Is it just the length of the tube to make sure it will be about right? I presume if it's a bit long I can add spacers?
Cheers

if they match your frames recomended travel to avoid and warrenty issues or cracking the frame, then just be sure the steerer tube is plenty long enough. to long aint a problem as you have options of spacers or cutting it down...www.bearbackbiking.com

As well as making sure the travel is ok (100mm - 120mm) and the steerer is long enough (too long isn't a problem) it's worth considering the axle to crown length. Basically two 100mm travel forks could be different lengths when fully extended therefore giving different head angles. This thread is a good source of info http://forums.mtbr.com/shocks-suspensio ... 70024.html. If it does have different calliper mounts then Superstar Components will almost certainly have the correct adaptor for a fiver.
Also ask about any damage to the fork including photos, when it was last serviced and by who and if it has a star nut fitted although star nuts are cheap and easy to do yourself.
EDIT: Your steerer length is the distance from the bottom of the lower headset bearing race on the crown to the top of the steerer tube, it's best to at least tap the stem top cap off as the steerer doesn't go all the way to the top.0 -
Current forks> Suntour XCM 100mm?0

Assumption here is disc brakes. The Suntour XCM and Vulcan I believe can have V brakes also.0
