Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton is to attempt to become the first person to use a bicycle to help her reach the South Pole.

The adventurous TV star will travel 500 miles across Antarctica in January, using an ice bike, skis and a kite to raise money for Sport Relief.

In the process, she will hope to set a new world record for the longest bicycle journey on snow.

Is she melting it down to help build the jet plane?

Helium at 150psi........ that should be enough to allow her to float over anything rough !

Lets hope nothing unfortunate happens to her and she is replaced by a replica

Petra, second only to Shep as the most beloved of the Blue Peter dogs, was in fact an impostor.

The BBC admitted that the original dog had died after just one appearance in 1962 and had to be replaced by a look-alike.

The swap was kept quiet for fear of upsetting younger children.

As my contribution to the charity trek, can i volunteer to go along to keep her warm? Gets quite nippy down at the South Pole apparently so she'll be needing lots of warming!! 8)

Bloody hell. I saw Blue Peter last night.

Did you see Fiennes lack of finger tips ? After a quick dunk in water and then a few seconds exposure at minus 45 or whatever. Ay caramba !!

Is she going alone ? I'm not sure it was made clear ? I hope she's got back up with her cos thats a hell of a lot more dangerous than kayaking a river.

    Chapeau Madame !
