Anyone got/tried one of the CRC bike bags: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=68409

Taking the bike on holiday next year and this looks like a goot cheap option.

If you get one you will need to add protection if you intend on taking it on board an aircraft, foam pipe clading works well in my experience and bubble wrap. EasyJet handlers can be a bit over excited if you know what i mean......

in general though they are very good.

i used a cinelli one last year for morrocco and thats was fine, i took the rear mech in my hand luagage though

They're pretty good for the price, just make sure you remove the shoulder straps before passing it over to the baggage handlers (they unclip), if you don't they (Easyjet) will use them to tear the side off the bag.

looks very simlar to my ultrasport bike bag...

they ok, and do the job but are a pain in the bum to travel with.. they dont stand up it will keep falling over. you have to take more parts off the bike than other bikebags (evoc) to get the bike in. but like i say they do the job..

if you can afford it the evoc bike bag is so much better and makes life that much easier. yeah they expensive but ask anyone who has traveled with bikes,. they will tell you the evoc is worth the money...
it stands due to it wider wheel base so you can actually use the wheels on it. the bike fits in better and easier.
the bike is better protected. and you dont have to dismantle the bike as much to fit it in...
    crc bag
    wheels removed let tyres down
    remove discs
    remove rear mech
    chain
    pedals
crank (depedning what crankset you have)
    handle bars.
    evoc bag
    remove wheels let tyres down.
    remove pedals
    handlebars.

I got one, it's ok, but the wheels & plastic rails bust on the 1st trip.

As mentioned wrap sensitive parts with bubblewrap/corrugated... other than that it still does the job and it was cheap.

I leave cranks on & tywrap them in place & put a block of wood under the rings, seems to work on the trips i've done, I also leave tyres inflated as it adds extra protection, I don't think you need to deflate them these days - unless you cant get wheels in the bag??

The wheel bags are good, quite well padded, I use them all the time in the van.
A berm? were you expecting one?

Only needed for the one trip ATM as going on a stag do to Bulgaria so the EVOC would be ott.

The idea I had was to put the bike in the bag, then the bag in a bike box for extra protection :)

Pilch, what bike have you got as just wanted to be sure mine would fit. It's a medium Marin Wolf Ridge.

I always use a cardboard box from an LBS. The same boxes that manufacturers ship their bikes all over the world in. I do own a bike bag (TeePee) but in the past just used it to keep my bike in when staying in hotels in a former job (I used to stay in hotels a lot), the staff couldn't complain then - it's just luggage.

But for protection while flying, a cardboard box does the job.

    your bike will easily fit...

i had my spesh demo dh bike in my ultrasport bag.. it very simlar to the crc one....

if your just going in one trip then i would go for a bike box from the lbs... not quite the same protection but cheaper.. either be free or for the cost a sixpack of beers or a box of cakes...

i have used bike boxes when i have purchased bikes in canada in the past.. bike has always been fine. just be sure you pack it right... and tape the bottom of the box with gaffer tape(incase it's wet when at the airport)

@ kenan no probs, plenty of room to stuff your pads, shorts etc in for extra padding too...

used it for Trek Fuel EX8 med & Yeti 575 sm - Yeti actually comes up a bit bigger though with 160mm Lyriks on it
