You do know what bike lights are right ? The back ones are red, they flash red like the lights on F1 cars.

I knew this would go down well with the square brigade on here ;)

Oh, you mean you've thought of having a flashing back light on a bike.

I'd patent the idea right away, don't want anyone else nicking it!

  • Hey hey hey Ive got it.... how about a bright light for the front of the bike too?

    what do you think?
    Is this realistic?
gonna get the weight weenies not being too impressed with this idea?

Gotta consider the positives though....night riding, be safe be seen and all that?

    My idea first.

  • No, just the idea of leaving it on when riding the trails, even in broad daylight (crazy I know).

It serves no purpose other than looking awesome, combined with my idea of a spokey dokey revival it will transform mountain biking as we know it !

I would like to see a system made where it comes on when you brake, I would call it ''The brakelite''.......

Thats a great idea, and just think the next time your on the road in the dark you can use it there too...Oh wait, no you cant, because you've wasted the batteries faffing about on the trails, but never mind maybe after the car that runs you over because he couldn't see you stops, you'll see his rear light get brighter when he brakes

Does Derby have a lot of so-called 'red-light areas'?!

and yet you've only just grasped the concept of brake lights ???? to be honest its probably not such a bad idea, i mean it would let you see slower riders on the trail earlier, especially in wooded area's, but thats a safety point, not a novelty :)

in general i agree, was just looking at it from another viewpoint, would be ok on a night ride so you don't park your front wheel up your mates backside, but in normal daylight riding its not something id do, but then again the op doesn't ride on the road he has a car etc, so why have lights on your bike in the first place? obviously thats why its such a novelty for him :)

    :D

It would be even worse on a night ride! I was on a night ride (all off road) and ended up behind someone with an Exposure Flare, people kept turning it off for him because it was so annoying, but he kept turning it back on.

There's no need for a back light off road. If you can't see the rider in front of you then how are you seeing trees and rocks?!

why only off road? surely if your on road be it on a bike car etc yours lights will pick out whatever is in front, why have rear lights at all? :) i do see what you mean though, some lights are a little bit too much, but wouldn't that come down to spacing? personally i wouldn't want to be that close that if someone decided to have a dirt sandwich id be joining them, but thats down to personal preference i suppose

To be honest I think I would look rather a tool on the trail with a flasing red light on my seatpost....

I would much more be interested in KERS if your could make that work.....if not...... when riding with mates how about Red Arrows style smoke ?.....

Should have a pit crew and live telemetry allowing them to tweak your ride as you go, with tyre changes every time you hit a muddy or dry section. Add DRS for a boost when you get to certain parts of the trail to fly past your buddies. Could probably achieve a DRS kind of system by just stripping down to lycra for less drag.

All about as nuts as Cyclocross. So yeah, why not.
  • I see there's still some non-believers, i've actually fitted mine onto my swinging arm for EXTRA KUDOS on the trails.

Fitting some wings onto my fork legs for extra downforce tomorrow, should improve my cornering speed by about 15% I reckon.......

Why not go the whole hog and have an enviromentaly friendly rear light in flashing Lincoln green?
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

On a bike you're likely to be doing a similar speed to the other person on a bike.

When I ride to/from work on 60mph roads, the cars, despite my best efforts, are going a lot quicker than me.

Also, whenever we stopped between sections it always ended up with his light facing back at us. There's no need off road!

if you want to improve your handling let all the air out of your for ( or remove the coil spring and saw 2-3 inch off it) this will lower your bike.. and fit some slicks some propper racing slicks nothing corners better than these..
