Doesn't matter what wheels they are , he does not have to pay for them like us and at the end of the day they ride what they are told to ride :D
  • Not always, sometimes they will rebadge their wheels or bikes etc to look like the ones they are supposed to ride.

Exactly, I remember reading somewhere that Lance used Lightweights or HED and had them badged up as Bontrager.

HTC didn't have a wheel sponsor purely so they could choose what they thought the best wheel for each situation.
In this case both the wheels are Hed although they often used Zipps too.

  • Just for the record, got some 404's. Found some new 2012 firecrest for a bit under £1300.

Just waiting for a dry day now

Some wheels here that framed the final TT in the Tour of the Algarve. Nearest bike is Richie Porte's who came third in the final TT stage note the highly ovalised chainrings, he uses them on his road bike as well and second bike in is Wiggo's bike who beat the World TT champ Tony Martin by a few hundreds he uses round rings, again on the road bikes as well. It was a fantastic Tour to watch both on the road and on the television which we did waiting in a cafe near some of the finishes. Sky dominated this event they were by far the strongest outfit there with Eddie Bos (points jersey a stage win), Wiggo (third o/a and TT stage winner) and Richie Porte ( Overall winner and queens stage winner up the Malhoa mountain finish). The Malhoa finish is a 3km dash up a 9.5% average gradient with sections of 13% (I know I road up it 40 mins before they did) and Ritchie flew up it launched by Wiggo who led him up the first 1.5km.

That is a crazy chainring! I've never seen one so ovalised! Looks like an egg.

Note: wheels aren't a very deep section.

I've gone back to round chainrings after trying Oval last year. Not least because the front shifting was sh!te and no matter how I set the front mech up, I often had dropped chain issues.

Just one other point re my chainring photos above. The photos were taken shortly before the first stage and each bike was on a separate car kerb side (pole position). It was from this observation that I conclueded that either Wiggo or Richie Porte were road captains on the Tour and not Froome as some thought who didn't finish.
