PEAK 100
The Spring Classic Sportive for Charity!
Sun 15th April 2012

Back for its second year PEAK 100 returns for what promises to be another spring classic!
Many of you will have taken part in The Macc Monster in October to end your cycling season so what better way to get back in the saddle and raise vital funds for children’s cancer research while experiencing a spectacular route spread across Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire!

It's 'only' 100kms, or more accurately 105kms, but it's all quality, with very little filler.
As ever, there is full route signage on bright orange correx, a well stocked feedstation, SAG wagon support and of course – the BBQ at the end!

Making use of mainly backroads, with only very brief main road transitions, the PEAK 100 promises to be a spring classic.
Check out the review of last year’s event!

The event features:
• Event start facilities inc toilets, changing and free car parking
• Start pack inc. rider number, energy products and sponsor forms
• Full route signposting
• Sag wagon support
• Event photographer
• Well stocked main Feedstation
• Publication of rider times
• Finish facilities inc toilets and changing
• Finish BBQ

Registation fee is £25.
Or alternatively you can e-mail chris@kidscan.org.uk with your details, and post your fee £25 by cash or cheque.
This is charity cycle sportive, so if you would like to raise additional funds with sponsorship we would be more than happy to supply you with the necessary materials.

If you would like more information on KidsCan the link is here, but getting you all interested in the cycle is more important right now!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I've ridden this event for the last 2yrs & its a really good ride thro' great scenary in the Peak District--good feeding station & well signed route--some fabulous climbs on backroads that are not overused & 65mls is plenty enough for this time of year. It's all for charity as well!!
  • I'm down to do this, been training but the closer it gets the more it scares the hell out of me! Seriously, I'm looking forward to it, will be my 1st sportive as well. Any idea of the times people tend to do it in and the number of cyclists for the last couple of years?
  • Might have a look at this although my calendar is starting to get pretty full, how similar is the route to the tour of the peak?

This is a good ride - well organised and friendly. I did this last year and really enjoyed it and will probably sign up again. As the name suggests, it is rather hilly.

This is a good ride to do for your first Sportive--although it's hilly its not ridiculous & is only 65mls--last years times are on the website---4hrs to 6hrs---but heh its about having a good ride in nice countryside--don't get to up tight about times--its not a race just a challenging ride--just go & enjoy it.

February has only just begun and we have over 40 riders taking part so far!
There’s plenty of time left to sign up and we’re hoping to get over 200!
This is the riders list so far.

In other news, the start and finish point is being relocated.
This will slightly affect the route, but not by much.
The move will benefit riders who are travelling to the start by car and hopefully be easier to find!

    More information coming soon!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

    Mini-Crisis Averted!

The start and end point will be the same as last year's PEAK 100 and Macc Monster.
For any of you who have signed up, the information you'll have downloaded for your bike satnav's will be correct.
For those of you coming by car there is parking around Big Storage, Macclesfield on Fence Avenue.

    Hope to see you there!

IMPORTANT: NEW START AND FINISH POINT FOR PEAK 100 THIS SUNDAY.

    Dear All,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, at very short notice we have been informed we are unable to use our normal start and finish point for PEAK 100 (Big Storage Fence Avenue, Macclesfield).

The ride will instead be starting from SOUTH PARK PAVILION.

    South Park, Macclesfield
Park Vale Road, Park Lane, Macclesfield, SK11 8AD

    This is the map - http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/leisure, ... d.aspx#map
We have also updated the route notes and GPX for the ride. I have attached the route notes to this e-mail.
This is the link for Map My Ride

The route will still be signed with bright orange correx signs so you can’t miss them!
Any questions, please contact us asap.
We look forward to seeing you on what will be yet another fantastic cycle which will hopefully raise thousands of pounds for childhood cancer research.

    Many thanks,

    The KidsCan Team

Great ride thanks! Much colder on top that I expected, with the wind and all. Thank goodness I had my winter gloves and legwarmers.

By the way, did you change the route at the last minute? The map-my-ride route shows the route turning off the A53 at Flash Bar Stores and going down to Longnor. However, everyone in my 'group' (mostly a long way ahead of me!) continued on the A53 for an extra mile and turned right down towards the Buxton raceway. It all seemed to be signed that way with the orange signs. We passed a lot of people coming back up from the raceway and they said 'yeah, it's a sort of lariat route down to Longnor and back'. So that's what we did. Was that right?

No--- turning right at Flash Bar (Travellers Rest Pub) was the correct route---as I was coming back up Highedge towards Axe Edge loads of riders were coming down towards me---there was no right turn sign at Flash Bar--but I was lucky to know the route---when I'd done the Longnor loop & got back to the top of High Edge there was a sign sending riders down!!!---whoever put the sign up put it 2mls further along the A53 than they should have done---Dave Riley
  • yeah, that particular turn after Flash confused me, expecting an orange sign with 'R' printed on, as according to the mapmyride route, it followed part of the 'Spud Riley' route down to Longnor except turning left before the Crowdicote climb.

Watched some riders go straight on to Axe Edge and some turn down to Longnor, so went to Longnor. Back up High Edge and riders coming back down asking where the second feedstation was. I advised that there should have been a sign to go right further back.

There were one or two other signs 'missing', so whether they had been tampered with I dont know.

Other than that, nice ride with the fine cool weather and some top scenery (tough pull up Wincle Minn tho) and some friendly chat. Quads were really sore towards the end.
Using this as a 'warm up' for the Brian Robinson (Huddersfield) ride week on sunday.

    Cheers.

    Hi Everyone,

    Glad you enjoyed it!
When we were signing the route we had some issues with the Flash/Longnor area.
We'll make sure it's resolved for next year.
Hopefully it didn't spoil the experience too much!

If you have a conctact for the Brian Robinson ride we have lots of energy gels left over.
Please could you e-mail chris@kidscan.org.uk or PM on here?
    Thank you!
