Really could do with some sensible advice on which hard tail to choose, all these
currently available for under £500, Genesis Core 20, Saracen Zen 1 (2010], Kona Caldera (2010]
Specialized Hardrock Pro, Rockrider 8.1 all seem great value and good reviews at higher prices, anyone ridden
any of these, I have limited experience off road just want best I can get for my limited funds.

considered something second hand? If you shop about you'd find an un-abused bargain fairly easily
For example a boardman team full sus, just a year old sold, for £460 on ebay the other week.0 -
I have got the Rockrider 8.1 and I have been fairly happy with it so far, this was my first "proper" MTB so I have nothing else to compare it to. I can add that the warranty from Decatlhon is good too (rear mech and cassette replaced after some problem with gear shifting), so if you have a Decathlon near you it could be a good contender. Go and try it first that is my advice don't just go for the price or the convenience.

Only buy second hand if you can get a second opinion or have the expertise to know what may/may not be wrong with a bike. The peace of mind of a warranty may suit some people better2011 Carrera Fury
