Looking to replace my 3 yr old Joplin after giving up the ghost (again)... looking at either Reverb (will it last any better) or Grav Dropper (crude but serviceable). Question: I really like my Joplin ("wiggle it any direction") remote and was wondering if the GD used a simple cable pull design that I could substitute the Joplin remote in place of the (reportedly fragile) GD remote?

Reverb, best bit of kit on my bike by far and faultless over the past 3 months.
Finished, Check out my custom Giant Reign 2010

Eventually dropped the dosh on a 5" Gravity Dropper Turbo Multi ... mainly due to Rose having one on offer at £120!
And the answer to my question (cuz I know thousands are waiting with baited breath)... is NO the CB Joplin remote won't pull enough cable.

The post appears much better quality than I had expected but the remote is very 'open' to the elements so I am currently working on some form of sealing (inspired by Mr Heath and Mr Robinson)

  • I'd not worry too much about the GD remote vmgscot. mine has been fitted for over a year, ridden in all weathers, crashed on several times, and is still fresh as the day it was fitted.

Best thing about the GD Turbo, getting your mates to sit on the bike then "demonstrating" why it's called the turbo

Thanks for that advice..... and I was SO looking forward to spending hours in the shed fashioning bits of rubber into a device that would fall off at the first outing!

Quick question, do you ride 'rear entry' or prefer the frontal approach?
Not sure what which is best for the cable routing

    That's a very personal question.

Cable routing on the Edison means I have mine in from the back. Although that said, Sheepsteth has the same bike and the same post, and I *think* his goes in from the front. Operationally, it makes no difference. Just whichever gives the best routing options.

    Thanks again.
I'll try the 'brokeback mountain' routing first and see how that goes.
    Cheers

i have the classic and have it routed backwards.

i fitted a much longer cable and have it routed towards the BB by cable tieing it to my gear cables.

  • Thaaaaaats right, I knew you'd done it a different (wrong) way to how I have mine (the correct way).

I have to say, I'm surprised you've not got yours sideways.
