I then called insurers and offered to deal with them direct and call off the ambulance chasers if they were fair with me.
I've just today had a settlement cheque for just under £4000.
Do you think the insurers were pleased that you didn't use lawyers and so dealt with your claim swiftly and with less fuss. I would guess that you not using a lawyer saved them a good few ££KK in fees.
Definitely. In fact, if you look at the lot of the marketing activity from specialist claims firms they state that insurers will try and deal with you directly to try and get away with paying you less than you can get. Ultimately, I guess the severity and circumstances of the accident dictate the best approach. In my case, I was mobile relatively quickly, just with a lot of discomfort, so it was a simpler case to deal with.0 -
Got knocked off by an elderly driver who turned his car across my path at the last minute, went over the bonnet and landed on my head. Destroyed my bike, but after a trip to A & E for a check over I went home a few hours later.
Driver admitted fault at the scene to the police officer that attended. Pretty clear cut, two independant witness' who backed up my story
Phoned drivers insurance comapny, who passed me from department to department and spent ages fobbing me off. Pretending to take my details, but then each time I rang to find out what they were doing about it, got the story about how I hadnt registered a claim and then went through the process again.
After 2 months of this I phoned a solicitor. Accident happened on March 9th 2011, and I received final settlement for my bike and personal injury claim at the beginning of Feb 2012.
I didnt want to use a solicitor, but unlike others here the drivers insurance company pretty much gave me the run around and didnt want to speak to me, so I was left with no other option.
Its cost them in the long run as I was so infuriated with how they treated me, when the solicitor offered to put in a personal injury claim as well, I agree'd to it. As no way was I going to be left out of pocket for something that I didnt cause and wasnt my fault.
Police are in the process of prosecuting the driver still, he's been to court 3 times now.
I ended up with the full retail value of my bike recovered plus some extra on top.
Its left a bitter taste in my mouth and even the solicitor dealing with my case was amazed at how the insurers dragged their heels over what she said was a clear cut case.0
