what do you mean "upgrade" just fit a lager shimano disc.
if you mean you want to change to hope brake or avid then Avid do splined fit rotors. for hope just use the shimano rotors."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

maybe..??????
if the new brakes have the same size rotor as the xt ones then you ashould get away with using the xt rotor on the new hope or avid caliper...
otherwise i think it would be new hub/wheel time...www.bearbackbiking.com

So if I understand right you have a centre lock hub. In which case you either have to limit yourself to centre lock discs of whatever brand, or get an adapter to fit a 6 bolt.
In the case of Hope rotors they don't do centre lock so you'd need an adapter, and watch out for thickness issues - http://www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomme ... did=1077340
