So carbon HT mountain bikes are they any good I'm looking to get http://www.btwincycle.com/EN/rockrider- ... 170475071/ next week how strong are the frames I only ride XC or trail and peak district type of stuff no big drops or steps are they worth getting.
I was also thinking about the boardman FS team as there both the same price.

Nothing wrong with carbon at all, is the ultimate frame material. That is a steal, great frame warranty.

Though take a look at this:

Seen that not got in my size. I am likening the boardman FS. But for my type of riding I the ht would be better.

Carbon is very strong. Hence the use in F1. Crashes may look spectacular with bits that break off that are designed to do so, but the carbon cockpit usually stays in one piece and saves the driver's life. A big safety progression from the old days before carbon.

What the frame stands up to is down to the designed use like any other bike. On One Carbon 456 for example is a serious frame stronger than many alloy & steel bikes in the same market and is fine for serious chucking about. Or for XC there's the Carbon Whippet.

slight thread hijack. How strong is the Whippet?

I'm after a short / mid travel hardtail too (100 -120mm fork). The geo looks good on the Whippet but I'm not sure if its an out and out XC racer or a general do a bit of most things mountain bike. I don't mind sacrificing a bit of weight and going for the 456 carbon instead as that is still a light frame.

According to the website it comes in around 1300g with the carbon 456 around 1500g, if it was my money iwould have the 456 for that extra strength but still light.
