Which size 29er to go for?

Hi guys!

I am quite new to 29ers, but I really want to buy one. I managed to narrow it down to a few bikes, but I am not sure about the size. I am 177cm, I think thats about 5'7".
Any help with the sizing would be nice!

    Where are you based? Best to try some. A mate at 5'8 rides a 16" on one 29er
    But another at 5'9 rides an 18".

    Sit on it.
    Sizing differs and so do bodies.

    Well, I have tried the trek x-cal in 15.5 and 17.5 size and both felt ok. The 15.5 was bit on the small side. I am coming from a roadie background, so thats why I find difficult to find the right size in mtbs. :D

    It's got nothing to do with road or MTB. Different manufacturers have different ways of measuring sizes and sometimes even between different models within the same manufacturer.
    Bodies are also different shapes.
    Only way to tell is sit on it, at least and preferably ride it.
    Personally given a choice of slightly small or slightly big, I go for small but even there opinions differ.
