On-one Whippet X9 or Cube Reaction GTC Pro?

First post so please be gentle!
I'm looking at getting a new bike in the New Year to replace my 7 year old Kona Explosif and I think I've narrowed it down to these 2. I'm after something light and comfortable for XC riding and daily commutes to work, budget around £1500.
Spec wise I prefer the Fox forks and Shimano drivetrain on the Cube but saying that I've had no experience with SRAM gears or the Reba forks on the Whippet. Both frames seem fairly similar although the Whippet is the lighter bike overall. I'll be keeping the 8 months old Hope Hoops from my Kona whichever one I go for.
Another alternative is a Cube Reaction Pro. Aluminium frame, and full XT drivetrain but £100 cheaper.
All 3 bikes are also very pretty! That shouldnt matter, but unfortunately it does!
Thanks for any advice/help with this!

Usual advice is to test them, but not always easy. The OnOne is lighter, has the better fork, but I don't know much about the wheelset (nor of those Ringle too). But as you are awapping, makes little difference lol. I too prefer the Shimano set up on the Cube as I find it to be better built than the X9 kit, though XT shifters would have been nicer.
Is a very close call.0 -
I was looking at the exact same bikes as you are only a few weeks ago putting me in the same situation.
I like the Whippet and the weight of the frame but the X9 spec was putting me off. I really do like Shimano and would have preffered an XT build. For starters, the XT shifters are 2 way release on the shift down lever which is ideal for me. On One have a good reputation and are based in the uk if any issues.
The Cube is an attractive looking bike with a good spec, nice forks but could have gone the extra few quid and put XT shifters on. Cant find any info on the net on frame weight. Cube are very common now unlike the Whippet.
I didnt choose either of them lol and got a nice deal on a Cannondale Carbon Flash but if i were to choose again between the two, i think the Cube would be the winner, but only just! Would love to know how much that frame weighed though.http://www.mudsweatgears.co.uk
