My CS HG40 AW cassette needs to be replaced but due to its age (I think) having trouble finding a like for like replacement. I have found the HG41 cassette but is this ok as a direct replacement or is there a better HG 11-32t I can get for no more than £15? Thanks

dont know if it would be an upgrade,, but it should be a direct replacement....

you say replacing due to age, so im gonna guess the hg40 is worn.. have you got a new chain and possably chainrings to. if you just replace the cassette with a new one and the chain has stretched then the chain will skip and jump on the new cassette... but you already knew that bit did'nt ya.

Yes, new chain too and a new Acera 8sp and a hanger.....the list grows!
  • thinking out loud a bit here, but i'd assume that (without checking) the hg41 is just a derritive of the HG40, most likely a couple of teeth larger on the big cog, for example, hg40 might be 11-28 and hg41 might be 11-30,
upgrade, not really, is pretty much like for like! upgrade wise, a deore would be classed as such but you may struggle to find an 8spd version??
if youve got to look for a new cassette, chain, hanger and mech then you Could add a new shifter on that and go 9sp??? prolly only cost a tenner more?? (- assuming youve a mech and hanger attatched in one, you can get a hanger to attatch to the frame and then run a conventional mech, - my brothers old bike has the same set up,looked at the options but for the use he gives it just stuck with the mech and hanger unit!)
