Hi there,

Iv recently bought two pairs of Mavic Cosmic Elites (one pair for the mrs) we both needed a campag freehub so the bike shop we bought them from changed them for us.

When I got them I learnt the rears wouldnt fit into either frames, so I returned to the bike shop to realise the lad that changed the freehub body put the axle in the wrong way.... so they corrected this.

They now fit fine and all is well, but the hubs are almost silent? the same wheels (but with a shimano freehub) on show in the shop are really loud. Is this normal and due to the campag freehub or has the lad that made the mistake done some damage internally?

Id be grateful for any ideas on the subject.

Cheers

  • As long as everything works they sound fine to me. If you lube a Mavic freehub it does become nearly silent with just a quiet ticking. When new they are always supplied quite dry and are pretty noisy which is what you'll be hearing in the shop. It sounds like he's just used a few drops of lube like you're supposed to when servicing. If you prefer them noisy they usually get more ticky again after a few months riding!
  • Thank you very much for your reply, you've put me at ease! I havnt riden them yet but they seem fine and what you suggested makes sense, so im happy!
