Hi all,
I wasn't sure where to post this one...
I am going to buy a Bike Carrier, to attach to the rear of my car (rather than on top as i use this for my kayaks). I just wanted to check if anyone had any horror stories, best avoided etc tips. I think I will opt for something that holds 3/4 bikes so that I can accomidate mates as/when they tag along.
Cheers!
Currently looking at:

Ant towbar mount tack will be secure, Thule are one on the best around and tow equipe usually do some good deals on them...

You can also pick used ones up for around £70....plus you can extend some models..0 -
Thanks :-)0

i would go for a towbar mounted one... there is no way i would trust a rack that is strapped to the back of the car, it not worth the risk...
i read more than one horror story of them failing and your pride and joy ending up on the motorway....
personally i wouldnt have my bikes outside the car when traveling....www.bearbackbiking.com

Any Thule tow bar mounted rack that takes 3 bikes. And then get the 4th bike add on."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I looked at Thule ones but ended up with the 2 bike version of this:
http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehs ... ure5Jvj%60
It's very solid (if, perhaps a little heavy - but it's not going to break) but superb - the tilt function is so useful. Mine was a bargain at about £150 as they had some on offer. They get very good reviews and I'd recommend one straight away.
Also worth looking at this company's bargain offers as they discount quite heavily if they've got some slow-moving stock:

Hi all,
Just thought i should come back and confirm that i ended up getting this:
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165477 @ £149.99
Very pleased with it. Have used it with two bikes so far. Can't open my boot though as the handle bars etc get in the way. Not to bothered as I can access that from inside the car (Subaru Outback 05) and the tilting version of this carrier model didnt get very good reviews. It hooks up to my electrics so has indicators, break lights etc. Need to get a numberplate printed up next.
Leave the roof clear for my Kayaks....
I smell a road trip to Wales is on the cards for MTB Trails + Whitewater :-)
Thanks for all your input, advice, links etc.0
