Not the first one ever, you understand, but the first one since my return to cycling/commuting.

So down goes the tyre, crack open the new tube and the repair outfit. Bit of rain knocking about so replace tube as opposed to roadside repair.

Question is, when you het home - do you discard the old tube? Or do you repair it and use it as a spare/saddlebag replacement?

  • A few of us store up a few tubes and do them in one hit. There was a poll on this a month or two back

cut out the valve, split them down the middle and then use as a cheap but effective driveside chainstay protector.

That's what I use on my MTB.

If you accidentally tore a five pound note in half, would you bin it or stick it back together again?
