Hello,

I need a new road bike frame and I have a budget of £1500. I'm not too picky when it comes to material. Has anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks a lot

I've got an old Terry Dolan 7500 winter frame you can have for £1500 and I'll throw in the forks too
Oh and please remember to click on my blog:

The more clicks I get the higher it creeps up the google radar :)

Howsabout something titanium with a Ti seatpost and some top of the range forks? Can recommend Ti as a vibration damping, compliant but not too soft material. Excellent over rough roads and good on the long distances. In my experience you do need a good set of forks though to totally remove road buzz from the front end.

Sounds pretty offhand - I'm assuming then this is not to be a dream bike? In which case just go for what looks nice and offers a good deal. It is pretty hard to give any sort of meaningful recommendation with so few guidelines...
  • Yea, you need to tell us what you're hoping to use the frame for.

you want something aggressive or something relaxed? what sort of riding do you do?
  • Hi,

I ride recreationally mostly, hoping to take it more seriously next year hence the upgrade. I would like something quite agressive, I was looking at this http://www.boardmanbikes.com/road/slr98.html, anyone have any experience of Boardmans? I'm not looking for a 'dream' bike just something nice for the price.

    Thanks
  • I've got the AiR 9.8 - just finished the build two days ago.

I love it! ... not ridden it yet but looks wise ... love it!
  • Get a Blue or an Argon 18. A proper, high quality frameset from either can be had for your budget. this way you get a performance, proven and trusted frame instead of an expensive halfords brand. Other than fit and trying one you cant beat having a rarer, real high end bike to be proud of. If I got an expensive boardman it'd feel like Id bought a £40k peugeot (rcz)- yes it might be fast-ish and look ok but its still a peugeot.
  • lol .. another bike snob.

the boardmans are being used by the world triathlon champion and a professional cycling team.
  • Ive seen the Scott addict R1 2011 frameset for around the £1500 mark, and the addict r2 frameset for just over 1k. And although 2011 was the last year for the addict its still a bloody good frame and a shame that scott dropped it, I actually prefer it to the Foil(although I am a bit weird) :D

LOL great post. Try buying an AiR 9.8 in your local Halfords then. Personally i'd rather take a Boardman AiR that has actually been developed by a rider like Chris Boardman (he lives around the corner from my office and is seen regularly riding) than many other bikes - regardless of where the brand started out selling.

The Boardman Elite range is not sold in Halfords. Value for money they are hard to beat. 8) 8)
