Looking to Upgrade my chainrings to a Shimano Deore with bash ring. Now I also want to change from 8 speed to 9. Currently have SRAM X4 rear mech and shifters.

Now Can i upgrade to SRAM X5 plus the Deore Bash Guard or should i go for Shimano Deore all round?

As long as the rear mech and shifter are the same it will work fine. But whether it's worth it? You will need a new cassette and chain as well.

Needs a new chain and cassette anyway as they seem quite worn. Managed to bend the 3rd ring also on the actual chainset.

You can get a full 10 speed Deore groupset from Merlin with disc brakes for £234. Sell the brakes if you don't need them, so should get a full drivetrain for £150.

Thats not a bad price. Already have the Deore Discs. So could flog them as you say. Will i notice any benefits compared to the SRAM X4?

Yeah - you'll have 10 cogs at the rear.
