I recently got a Polar CS200 as a present and my plan is to get some proper HR based training in on the turbo using the Black Book. However, to do a ramp test on the turbo I'm going to need to use the speedo. Can you fix the speed sensor to a rear wheel for use on the turbo? The instruction manual says the sensor needs to be within 30cm of the computer so I guess not even if it can be fitted in which case I guess I'll have to do a ramp test on the road and use HR only when on the trainer.

  • There is not enough oompff from the transmitter, i've not been able to get mine working on the rear anyway. If someone knows the best set up I'd be keen to know the answer to this as well.

Put the head unit on a table next to you if it's too far away on the bars?

What are you going to be measuring in your ramp test?

edit: sorry I just realised you are doing the Black Book ramp test. PR advises you have a helper to write down your numbers - You will need one! Get them to hold the computer or put it on the floor.

Good thinking Tom, it's a little bit disappointing that Polar can't get their units to work off rear wheel though. I assume the computer itself has to be cadance compatible in order to add a cadence sensor :?

Your other option is to put the bike mount for it onto the top tube then you can get it close enough to the rear wheel so the sensor picks the signal up.

Its what I used to do with mine when I ran it on the bike on the turbo trainer.

I bought mine in Australia and my speed sensor is rated 50cm and cadence at 80cm

I wonder what the difference is?
