Direct mount stems

Afternoon all. Have acquired a bike with dual-crown Domain forks and would like a direct mount stem to make it go faster :)

The bike has a conventional stem at the moment and I would like to know if it really is as easy as unbolting it and bolting a direct mount in its place. Not entirely sure about the headset/top cap/preload arrangements with a direct mount stem :?

Any advice welcome
Cheers

cutting the steerer will be needed and it will make the fork harder to sell on. use on another bike and you end up putting forces into places you dont want to when you crash. as the bars can not move.
