Mavic Freehub Axle

Hi,

Whilst cleaning my freehub and axle on my 2009 Mavic Crossrides I managed to snap the axle...

I've been searching and ringing around for the spare part all day and can't find anywhere that stocks the right bit.

It's a 24 hole hub, I can't seem to find many decent hubs that are 24 hole to replace it with.

At the minute it's on a QR, is there anything I can do to get rid of the broken axle and replace with something else like a 20mm axle. What would need modifying on the dropouts for this?

Failing that, any other tips? Can I use a 36 hole freehub on these 24 hole rims?

Cheers,

John

any Mavic dealer can get one in to order.

will be easier to get a new wheel.

20mm would need a new fork. (as would 15mm).

  • You do meanthe rear right?

I bent my front axel in a collison. After trying to find a new one it work out more econimical to just buy a whole new set, not just one wheel. Meant getting a new free hub too. Means that apart fron the axel you can build one whole new wheel.

On your last point. hub must match rim. 24h rim 24 spoke flanges. Also means you have spare spokes, which is also a bonus with those bladed spokes.

Can't beleive anyone would go to that expense because of a broken axle, as said above just order a new axle from a mavic dealer, will be about a week or so as all mavic spares come from france.
  • yeah id speak to a Mavic dealer, they will sort you out i should hope.

also how did you snap it by just cleaning?
