Hey Guys,
Need a little advice. Had my bike stolen recently (2008 Mongoose Teocali Elite - £800 Pauls Cycles). Just got confirmation from insurannce company / Wheelies that I can have up to £2000 for a replacement. Bonus!!!!!
Got to decide what to get from Wheelies. I'm seriously looking at
http://www.wheelies.co.uk/p48803/Giant-Trance-X-2-2012.aspx
What do you all think?
Also Wheelies have said that they can get other bikes that are not listed on their website. However they can't get Trek, Cube, Ghost and the smaller brands.
One last thing, is it bad to say "cheers mate" to the little scrot that stole my Mongoose?

What type of riding do you mostly do?
Trance xc great bike good for a bit of everthing except DH/FR
Reign 2 more AM/Trail light DH/FR
Scott Voltage FR
All depends what you want from the bike.0 -
Not got the skills for the big silly stuff. Mostly ride local woods and trail centres.0
-
Trance will do you great then, but try and get a test ride as sizing can be the critical issue.0

firstly, sorry to hear you had your bike nicked. secondly, its good your insurance is willing to spend up to 2k on a replacement steed.
can i ask was it on the house insurance policy or a specialist bike insurer? might look into getting some for mine.
as for which replacement bike, thats up to you. is there anything that you've had your eye on for a while?
on the wheelies website id agree with your choice of the Trance X or the Reign.
but have a look around at some other manufacturers, see what else is available and try wheelies to see if they can get it.2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. And sharks.0 -

Claim went through my normal house insurance. Really dropped lucky I guess to get 2 grand for a replacement.
Regarding other brands, always wanted a Trek EX8 and I like the look of the Canyon Nerves, but Wheelies can't get them.0 -
Having been told that Wheelies don't do Ghost bikes, i have just found this on there site.

What you all think compared to the Giant Trance X2?0 -
looks wise. the ghost looks ace. but spec wise, difficult. after a quick look the giant may be slightly better, but there are areas on the ghost which are better, i.e drivetrain.2011 KHS Full Susser Carbon 29er Race BuildClank wrote:M'eh, I might just go back to zapping it with frikken lay-zur beeeems. Spend a little less on the bike and a little more on the bike security.............
I've already learnt my lesson and have spent a fortune on padlocks and a house alarm (motion dectectors, the works) for my garage.
I believe I can only choose a bike replacement and nothing else with the claim money. My heart says the Ghost (mainly for the looks), but my head says the Trance.0 -
The Cannondale ?????
Though just noticed this.....which is probably the pic of the bunch

Not sure about the Cannondale, are they any good. The spesh above looks smart though.
I'm really getting confused now, TOO MUCH CHOICE!!!!!!!0 -
The Trance will serve you wellA much loved, Giant Trance X3 20100
-
For me it would be the Camber Pro, then the Cannondale then the Trance....

Any views on the Ghost

Of all the bikes, I like the look of the Ghost best, but if I get it will I be saying I should have got the Spech or Trance or whatever. Also went to LBS today and they were bigging up the Lapierres DOH!!!0 -
At the end of the day its your choice but the Camber has the best spec...and the ability to lock out the rear suspension from the bars, OK its a 20 speed but that's all you need for trail riding...0

Thanks for all the advice guys, think I'm going to go for the Ghost. The spesh does look good, but I'm a big guy and I've been reading that the Camber is a bit flexy.
I've been looking at a lot of bikes, but I just keeping coming back to the Ghost 5900 2012. Wheelies is now closed until Monday, so I will probably change my mind again.
Thanks again all!!!0 -

Flexy ???? did you read the BR review ?
I know the BR review doesn't metion any flex issues, but I have read it in other threads and in a mbr review. Unfortunately I'm a bit bigger than the average rider (tbh a lot bigger) so I dont want any frame issues. The ghost has had really good reviews, with it's stiffness being a highlight.
Do you not rate the Ghost?0 -
Yep they are OK, just in my opinion the spesh is better, as for weight it wouldn't be an issue, my mate is 19 stone and rides one...as for the frame, the M4 tubing is fantasic and the camber has one many awards against similar priced bikes...as the end of the day if I were you I would try both the ghost and the spesh in store and see how they feel...0
