2x9 or 2x10 with XTR M970 cranks compatibility

Thinking of moving to 2x9 or 2x10 but want to use my existing XTR 9 speed cranks if possible. What 38/26 chain rings to fit M970 XTR Cranks?

I know I can run Blackspire Pro 38 and 26 chainrings on 104/64 cranks. Anyone used these or are there better offerings I should consider?

I also know that the new LH XTR shifter can be adjusted to run 2 or 3 chainrings. How do I manage with my current 3 only setup? Also what about the front mech - again its XTR M970. I don't really want to run a bashguard if I can avoid it.

I'm assuming I can set the stop on the front mech so it will not move the chain past the middle ring - hell I've managed that when setting up a front mech even without trying!

Any help appreciated.
