....Or something else?

First time post here, sorry if this has been done to death but I'm really needing some advice/recommendations. My max spend is £650 which gets me either of these bikes through the cycle2work scheme. Needs to be done through Halfords, hence the two choices. But I understand they can source different bikes on request. So really I'm just looking for your advice on a good starter mountain bike for no more than 650. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I’ve done some research myself, Bikeradar etc but most of the reviews of these are of the older models and (from my understanding) the latest models aren’t quite as well specced?

Anyways, please help.

Thanks

The Boardman is specced very similarly to the older Fury - and I believe the older Fury is a better bet than the new one courtesy of the fork.

I'd lean towards the Boardman. See if it fits.
  • Thanks mate, Not sure about the white tho! ha. I was leabing that way anyways have to say. Cheers for the input.
  • I saw a fury earlier in the week for the first time, and i was surprised at its looks and i really liked the look of the 2x10 set up. Its a good looking bike. As a first MTB they are both really nice! As a beginner im not sure you would notice the difference between the two aside from cosmetics, but the more techy guys will qualify this for you. Id struggle choosing between the two - but i know id go for the Boardman in the end. :)
  • I looked at the kraken in my local halfords and it was a good looking bike too. decisions eh.

What about the Specialised Rockhopper 2012 version? Its in the same price range i think. would i be paying for the name?

Plenty for the name, spec is not as good.

Bokor, possibly even the Bokor 29er!
