Which AM bike?

I've got a trek EX8 soon going for sale with what i estimate to be between 800-1200 quid sale price in parts on ebay.
Assuming i get the middle figure and contribute £400 that gives me a budget of £1400; im looking for a second hand all mountain bike with at least 140mm up front, preferably 160mm.
Must be able to climb well as i do really enjoy technical climbs over rocks and roots, but most of all it must be able to fly across any terrain given smooth dolomite or gnarly rock gardens.
What do you guys recommend?
I'm thinking of a Trek remedy as it seems the logical way to go, and they have a lot of nice technology on their bikes, but im unsure of what else i should consider?
