Hi.

Ive just asked adice about some disc brakes for my bike,. In the thread I said I wouldnt upgrade anything else, Id just get a new bike a few years down the line.

After reading a few threads about people upgrading components on modestly priced bikes, it has got me thinking.

Is the Rockhopper frame good enough to justify a complete overhaul eventually? I love the frame and it fits me perfectly. I also like the idea of having a one off tailored for me. The derailleurs, cassette, chain and crankset are all new.
So after brakes it'd be the forks that would be first to change. It has Manitou Axel on it at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

It is but its all down to cost you will spend a lot more upgrading than you would just buying a new bike.

  • Thanks for the reply. I know it may cost more but I can do it gradually. If I saved money for a new bike, as I have 2 kids, it inevitably gets spent!

I wouldnt want to go too OTT on components. Fork wise, maybe RS Recon or similar?

  • I'd look for at least a solo air fork of 100mm travel.

Rest when it wears out, either better spec or the same.
  • Im sorry but I have no idea what a solo air fork is. From a google the recon seems to be. Is that the sort you mean?

Heard the saying if it ain't broke then don't fix it ??? it you original post you say you mainly ride on the road and on trails occasionaly...therefore why upgrade your fork ?

  • At the moment yes, but as I get my fitness and confidence up I would like to do alot more off road over spring-autumn.
