Chain Rings
Hi,
I am currently new to track. Been a handful of times and all is going well.
Now I am ready to change my gearing. I have been running a 50/17, and spinning like a mad man at times!
I could go to a 16 on the rear, but I think I will be spinning quite a bit still. My thoughts were to go to a 52/17 and see how that feels.
Unfortunately I have a 130dia crank arm, are there are good and compatible chain rings that I can use?
Or is it better to now invest in a 144 crank set?
Thanks
Mark

Your current gear inch is 76.9" going to 52/17 gets you 80.0" and 50/16 81.7" so you get more from changing your sprocket than your chainring. Stronglight do 1/8 130 chainrings that go up to 51. Have a play with a gear calculator to see the differences.Neil

You should be aiming for 84 - 88 for training on an indoor track.
As Neil has indicated there are 130PCD solutions for track. Most racers use 144 making it easier to borrow chainrings at meetings and the high quality track chainsets which are 144 are also stiffer/stronger.I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.0 -
Thanks for your help guys, unfortunately none of it matters now.
Got to track tonight to find that the storage had been broken into and a selection of bikes have been stolen!
Foolishly I didn't have insurance to cover this.
Really f***ed off now
