Hope 9x36 Cassette availability

Hi all.

I was wondering when the 9 tooth Hope cassette might become available? It was talked about in this article and was meant to be available this year I thought? I cannot see it for sale anywhere or really mentioned anywhere at all. Is there anything in the pipeline from Shimano or SRAM as a competitor to this product? I am really interested in it for the ability to run a 1x10 setup with great gear ratio spread.

Many thanks

Hope probably worked out that if they make it out of their normal cheese it will only last 47 seconds.

I just had a quick through the article linked, It is basically the hub body now, so i would think its been delayed for cost reasons?
I love the idea of a 9-36 ten speed though, if they managed to do it for a normal hub, that would be awesome!

Never it just will not fit.

The hope "cassette" will only work with one of their hubs.

What's wrong with Hope products? Do you find them inferior to others? I am fairly new to Mountain biking but I thought that Hope hubs were considered one of the best around? I thought their products were fairly high quality? To be honest it is a bit of a mindfield when you hear people write things like "none of that Shimano rubbish" and likewise with SRAM. There seems to be plenty of good products in each manufacturer but people unhelpfully knock entire manufacturers down based on one bad experience.

And only works on ones that make a hell of a racket.

(ducks and hides having just got a CB hub, but it's not quite as bad as Hope :P)

    :) hehe
I also learnt - correct me if I am wrong - that some of the best hubs make the most noise? That seems backwards to me but I'm sure someone can explain why.
Anyway yes, the above product is only compatible with Hope hubs. I'm not sure I'd care about that to be honest, nobody else manufactures as good a potential gear ratio spread with a 1x10 setup.

PS: I am down the road from you deadkenny...where do you ride?

The pro 2 had issues with maxed axels. The pro 2 has a very big batch that have flanges split. So they made the pro 2evo.
Their brakes are over powered and under priced. Or is it the other way round. ;)

Yeah, my old wheels are just about silent. I'm sticking those on the 456 build which aids the stealth of the thing.

The CB hubs may make it a bit more tricky for cheeky rides. Just need more speed to evade the bobble hats.
PS: I am down the road from you deadkenny...where do you ride?
Surrey Hills and Swinley mainly for local stuff. Check out the London Calling thread over in the Rides section. Have to wade through the chaff but occasionally there's some discussion about actual rides in there.

Yeah I haven't ridden Surrey hills yet but me and a couple of my mates ride up at Swinley. Thanks.

So this Hope cassette...not much info...not worth waiting out for?

i doubt it will be out until after youve worn out your next casette

deadkenny the Hubs also make it hard to sneak through the house when trying to sneak out for a cheaky ride. are you doing the brass monky's race down that way at the weekend?

  • So just correct me if I am wrong...I want to run a 1x10 setup. Thee is no possible way to have more of a spread of gears than using an 11x36 cassette? I mean, there is nothing like a 11 x 38 or anything like that with more than 36 teeth, or less than 11 teeth? I personally get by fine with 32 teeth front and 36 teeth rear for climbing, I just find occasionally I spin out with the 11 tooth going down fast hills. Very occasionally that is.

I tend not to pedal down hills. That's what gravity is for, and it's the best bit of the ride too.

Have a play with this to see what ratios may work best - http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gears/

Have to fill in the custom field for some cassettes as not everything is listed there.

  • Jus to update this, I emailed hope the other week and they said:

"Hi, the first cassette will be the 6 speed DH one and should be available in the new year with the larger cassette following shortly after.

    Cheers.

I'm so cool I made a spreadsheet to compare the ratios of triple/double/single ring setups.

    Oh yeah 8)
