Dear all,

I have an SLX 10 speed combo of 42/32/24, and the 42 met an untimely warped death this week.

I was thinking of converting to 2x10, taking off the 42 and replacing the middle. However, 32 just isn't fast enough for me. My casette is 11/36.

I see SRAM 2x10s run 39/26 (as their sensible option vs ), so was thinking something like a 36-38/24. What do you recommend?

I know I can keep my 3 gear front mech to run with 2x10 using limit screws, but will a mech designed for the larger ring be better i.e. 2x10 specific?

Many thanks, Andy

  • i run mine 22/36 (2x9 though) as never used the big ring, did try 26/36 for a bit too but that didnt half Hurt the legs!!! kept meaning to get a 24 for it but just never have and at the shop the shimano ones only come in 22 or 26 unless you have XTR!
front mech wise, just adjust the limit screws as you need to keep the clearence but stops over shifting and pop a bash guard/ring on! may need to drop the mech down a bit as it may be a bit high when youve popped the big ring off!!!

I doubt it, as he needs to have the middle ring portion of the mch aligned with the chain on the middle ring, he may need to raise it a bit IF it has enough depth to not foul the chain when using the Granny.

I've got 2X9 with 24t and 38t rings and an 11-34t cassette. It seems to work well for all round stuff. Plenty of top end speed and I've never really needed a lower gear.
