Hi all

Just wondering if anyone could confirm if the above chain is compatible with the following spec?

Bottom Bracket Truvativ GXP
Cassette (Rear Cogs) SRAM PG950 11-32T
Chain Shimano HG-73
Crank Truvativ Firex 3.2 GXP 44/32/22T
Pedals Alloy platform
GEARING
Derailleur Front SRAM X7
Derailleur Rear SRAM X9
Gears 27
Shifter(s) SRAM X7 9 speed

Basically my current chain, as in the list above, has snapped and I'd prefer a SRAM one with the power link included for ease of use.

Cheers in advance

Lee

    any 9spd chain will work.

shimano chain can also come with a quick link or you can use quick links with any same speed chain.

  • I think the point is that it's not very helpful. KMC may use harder metals that improve the chain in that it wont snap so easily, but therefore harder wearing on rings, cassettes and jockey wheel. May be a reason why KMC jockeys are metal hey.
  • KMC jockey wheels???? New one on me?

  • Whoops - got me brands confused there. KMC do not appear to make them.

Partly because I am wise, partly because you are talking tosh.
But if you have any actual basis for what you said I'd love to hear it.

like i said kmc chains tend to be harder wearing on cassette and chain rings, ran kmc chains for 2 years and after 3 new chains cassette and granny ring needed replacing, then ran sram and after 2 years i get 4 to 5 new chains before i need to change cassette and granny ring, so this is my basis , would you like to help the guy who first asked this question instead of just imho or is that the best you can come up with

  • Problem is chain wear is probably the most subjective thing in bike wear and tear, there are so many factors that make up the overall wear. From lube, riding conditions, torque, clenliness, material of the component gears used and so on....

Using your example - can't remember the last time I changed my granny ring, your experience seems to have been different.

yes your right, i can only base what i find on the fact i ride the same stuff year in year out so over a couple of years, it tends to level every thing out for me, after every ride drive train gets cleaned and lubed up, granny ring gets used alot round my way we have lots of knarly hills to get over :(

Go the whole hog and buy the 991, IMHO it is much easier to keep clean and shiney than the 951 or 971..shop around a bit, probikeshop here in france currently selling at €22.
