Hi,

I'm trying to settle on a bike to buy. Was originally going to go for the Genesis Core 50 but changed my mind a couple of times, then went back to the Core 50 but have now seen a good deal on a Genesis Core 40.

I can get the Core 40 for about £250 less than the Core 50.

Should I spend the extra £250?

The 40 is about 1/2 a pound heavier and a slightly lower spec:

From what I can see, the wheels are slightly different, it has a Recon Gold K fork rather than Recon Gold RL and the gears are mainly Deore rather than SLX?

Will I notice the difference? Is the extra £200-£250 money well spent?

    Thanks.

Not much between them, though I don't know the difference between K and RL forks.

SLX vs Deore - may not notice. SLX is supposedly more robust. I had SLX rear mech and was fine enough until I bust it recently (2 years lifespan with heavy use). I liked the shifting on it. Deore front mech which was rubbish however. Deore shifter is fine if plasticy feeling, but don't know on the SLX version.

Other than that the 50 has a 10 speed set up. That'll be different but it's not necessary. Personally I'd be more interested in 10 speed to go 2x10 instead of 3x9. That's 3x10 and don't think it gives much advantage over 3x9.
