on my new Scott rc I have shimano 50mm carbons which are not exactly heavey but looking for a second set of non aero wheels but don't know much about them, I researced aero wheels and settled for those but want a second pair for climbing any recommendations need to be light and strong. Running di2 so shimano fitment. Mavic ksyrium seem obvious but know if the gain is viable any other options or help greatly received thanks

well, I was considering myself American Classics magnesium or the other tubeless option which come at about 1.1kg for the pair. I don't know much about them though but they seem to get very good reviews I would consider them at the first place myself if I knew whether they would be stiff enough, especially when climbing.0

I'm 67kg and I’d be worried about riding on a pair of 1.1kg wheels!0

Me being 101 kg I will give them a miss!0

Have you considered some Dura Ace C24's? Great for climbing and pretty much bombproof. Plus they will compliment your current Shimano setup perfectly. I have a pair and have hit some pretty large potholes at speed recently with no ill side effects. The wheels are as true as the day I bought them.0

Given that you're a heavier rider then I'd say handbuilts are the best option. Have a chat with Derek at Wheelsmith, I'm sure he can spec something light weight with a few extra spokes to ensure stiffness.0

+ 1 for the DA c24's - or if on a budget the RS80's make good all-rounders. I've got Kysrium SL's - not overly fussed on them.0

i have the american classic 350s (650 c so about 1250 g here). the rims are total tin soda cans and the wheels flex really badly when i stand (i am about 50 kg too, so we aren't talking serious stress; never had a problem with my other wheel set).
they are fabulous on long, >10 km type climbs and i wouldn't want to use any other wheels going *up* mountains. but on short steep climbs, flats or descents they are so seriously sub par it is a huge compromise.0
