I delayed my ride today as it was thick fog. Two hours later it was just as bad but I set off anyway. It was cold, wet and miserable until I got towards Matlock and the sun came out and the sky was blue - it was brilliant!

Just thought I'd share that with you :)

Those sort of rides are always the best, they start miserable, feel like you just can't be arsed, thoughts only of the slog ahead, and then...you have an absolute stormer of a ride! good times.

If you are going to play out in fog - just make sure you have bright lights and a bright jacket.

Not like the bloke I saw (briefly) in fog last year. No lights and a grey rain jacket.....

The fog was so thick this morning the moisture was condensing on my clothes and dripping of the peak of my hat. Poor Gizmodo's glasses were so fogged up he couldn't see, I couldn't either because of the fog innit.

I often ride in fogs, living on the coast as I do, and it continually amazes me all the cyclists I see in drab colours - grey a popular choice - and no lights. Unbelievable. And I am usually riding well before dawn so it is dark as well as foggy. And yet I see this all the time... Or rather, I barely see this. It leaves me wondering how many more out there I never see at all...

I ride the great central way in Leicester home as part of my commute, the final section is unlit, and although it is traffic free, it is used by walkers and dog walkers, not just cyclists, the amount of other cyclists without lights is frankly disgusting, somebody will get seriously hurt down there soon, in fact i nearly rode into an unlit rider a few weeks back and got called a d*ickhead, he wasn't a chav on a BMX, he was a fellow roadie, he was the one without any bloody lights! Also, NONE of the dog walkers or walkers seem to think wearing reflective clothing in the dark on a designated cycle path is a good idea. :x

I narrowly avoided running over a pedestrian whilst in my car on a foggy morning a few years ago, it was a 60mph single carriageway with no pavements and I was only doing about 45mph as visibility was so poor and suddenly saw her walking towards me. She was dressed in black head to toe and had the cheek to raise her fist at me like it was my fault as I dodged her at the last second. Some folk are just too dumb....
  • I've woken up to drizzle, and mizzle, before. Today I woke up in Leeds. It was frizzle. Cold, wet and nasty.

  • We went out Sunday, around North Notts. Saw the sun about once, briefly! Cold & damp.

    I could say something similar.

I went out most days this summer, around Scotland. Saw the sun about once, briefly! Cold & damp.

I got caught out in freezing fog last year...the ice was forming on my bars and forks. Visibility was terrible but fortunately could take a detour for about 10 miles on a cycletrack so could relax a bit and actually enjoy the experience rather than be shit scared of some driver not seeing me.
