Hi, just looking to buy my first road bike.

My husband is into mountain bikes and I do bits but nothing too technical and fitness not great.

I decided that I want to do a serious road ride and raise some cash for charity so, here I am, just starting out!

    Hi and welcome.

A cheap starter would be some slick tyres for your MTB. Then see how you get on.

This wont be anything like it all, will just be a mountain bike with quieter tyres and less rolling resistance therefore faster and easier to pedal.

Grab yourself a proper road bike and enjoy. Let us know how you get on!
  • Whats your budget?

If you are looking for something for a one time event, then something cheap from a local bike shop will do as long as its set up ok. If its something you wish to carry on with, second hand is always a good starting point as LOTS of people get fancy road bikes, develop zero passion for it then sell it on (especially in winter!).

If you must have new shiny stuff, no one here will blame or judge, as we are all too well experienced with the bottomless money pit that is road cycling =)

Very excited and keen to get going - will let you know.

I'm sure I'll be looking for advice and info and I hope to be able to contribute in the future.

Better than buying something that's ok and then having to buy the decent bike 3 months down the line though.

    Well done OP.
