Tesco at the mo (was in the larger tesco extra, not been in the normal one to check) had Veg oil at £5 for 5L. picked up a couple to go int hte car, will pick up a coupl e more and store int he shed!
sad that for 5L of fuel you can save £2! - back to the price that the last Major fuel protest sparked off at when it got to £1 L!
but if any of you run old deisely lumps then thought may be handy for you!

Cut it with proper diesel so the veg oil doesn't set in the cold weather
Don't suppose you ever tried waste veg oil?0 -
Hope you plan on paying the duty on that.
BBAAAAAAAAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!0 -
I can't remember the amount of litres, but you can use enough oil for like, 10k miles without having to declare it. They made it legal to use oil in diesels a few years ago but never made a big deal out of it (for obvious reasons )0
-
o'rly? I did not know that.
Out of curiosity though, hypothetically, how would they ever prosecute you anyway? It is my understanding that you'd be paying your duty on it retrospectively anyway, so how could they ever prove you'd used over your legal allowance?0 -
Cat, 4500L allowed anually before having to pay duty,
what they ask is that you keep the receits from purchases of oil as a form of proof of purchase etc. otherwise theyd do a tank dip test and see what your running, common with testing for Red deisel users!!
blue, yeah mines mixed 60/40 deisel/veg oil at the mo, but know of peeps that run 100% in the summer and 80% winter mix, just need to carry a spare fuel filter just in case and the allen keys to wip it out an change,
tricky to get WVO here, most people use 'southwest reusable edible oils' who deliver new and take old to recycle themselves, and i dont have the space for filtering it thoroughly enough! few of the guys i know on line that do have access to it get it for £5/20L or cheaper!!Timmo.

I had a 2.2l Turbo 4x4 7 seater bus last year that did about -4mpg. I spent a long time preparing to make my own biofuel (even if it was just filtering chip shop oil). The I got a 2.0 petrol and I'm back into thinking of getting an old Diesel to do this to - but I can't sell the friggin 407 now... stuck with the beast.0

Not all cars will like running on svo though, worth doing a wee bit of reading first... Keep meaning to check which fuel pump is in mine, one model works fine and the other explodes instantly, useful thing to know I think!Uncompromising extremist0

Does it work on newer diesels? Say a turbo diesel 2004 VW Golf...just as an example....0
-
No! Too many electricy things controlling it! And wrong type of fuel pumps! Only works on older deisel engines running Bosch pumps,Timmo.

Pffff, live a little!0 -
I ran my '98 Defender 90, 300TDi on a mix of veggie oil/diesel and yea, it works well and smells a bit odd compared to pure diesel.
Whenever I saw veggie cooking oil on special at the supermarkets I'd buy quite a bit so I could blend it with the diesel.
It's a good way to save a few quid on running costs, but also remember that it doesn't contain the detergents and anti oxidising agents that diesel does, so when running 50/50 or a higher ratio of veggie oil in the tank, keep your eye on the filters and more importantly the engine oil, as it will sludge up more rapidly than when running straight diesel.0
