Needed a new Innertube so popped in halfords while i was out that way (wish i'd gone to the usual lbs) anyway, picked up a Conti inner for £6.99, rather than a cheap halfords effort (ive taking so much stuff, not all cycling related, back to that god forsaken shop) anyway, fitted the inner and pumped it up, got to about 80psi and whoosh...the bloody thing popped, took it out and inspected, and the seem had split, about a cm long...anybody else experienced this with Conti's? Just i intend to take it back to halfords tomorrow, and will probably just swap for another if its a deffinate one off, but if they have a reputation for being crap tubes ill just get a refund...

Sounds to me like the classic symptoms of pinching the tube. It's slightly easier to pinch them if they're thin wall lightweight jobbies. Did you use levers to fit it?- - - - - - - - - -

I didn't use Levers to fit it, and would agree on symptoms of a pinch, except the split is right next to the valve, which seems an unusual place to get a pinch.
PS. even if it is my fault, ill still try and return said tube to halfrauds. They owe me.0 -
In that case why did you ask?
To answer your original question, as far as I know Continental have a sound reputation for manufacturing high quality tyres and inner tubes for bicycles and cars. None of the Conti tubes I own have ever exhibited the charateristic you describe nor have I ever heard of such a fault being endemic amongst Conti tubes.
The irony of referring to Halfords as Halfrauds whilst describing how you're going to lie in order to get your money from them is killing me, BTW.- - - - - - - - - -

Lighten up fella, It was a joke, hence the halfrauds, although come to think of it, after spending £££ fixing the bike they sold me and didn't build correctly, i'd say the least they could do was a tube. I always maintained the tube would be going back to halfords if you see the original post. Looks like I nakard the tube then, cheers for the info!0 -
i use conti inners religiously, and levers most times - have never had an installation realted punture. all nipping punctures have been pothole type instances
this screams user error to me!0 -
Don't know about your problem with the tube, but always check their website first as you can get them for a lot cheaper on reserve and collect

I'm grumpy most nights, more so last night thanks to the innertube, no grudges to be held here0
