Neutrino experiment repeat at Cern.

The team which found that neutrinos may travel faster than light has carried out an improved version of their experiment - and confirmed the result.

If confirmed by other experiments, the find could undermine one of the basic principles of modern physics.

The idea that nothing can exceed the speed of light in a vacuum forms a cornerstone in physics - first laid out by James Clerk Maxwell and later incorporated into Albert Einstein's theory of special relativity.

Fascinating stuff, but wouldn't these scientists (nerds) be of more use designing better MTB's n sh1t?

Well this is not Boll*x as if the scientists did put their collective minds towards inventing a mountain bike that could go faster than the speed of light then I could ride around Deggy and Cannock at the same time and before I'd thought of doing them
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

Yeah, you know it makes sense.

The experiment really has to be reproduced at other facilites around the world before anyone needs to worry about the ramifications for physics models. There could be something unique about the Cern facility which results in the variation on the expected result. Then again, shift change is science is when it is most interesting.

I for one welcome our new faster than light overlords.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I'm afraid that this would only work if Doggy and Cannock were linear, aligned and at the same height. When you start turning corners, then special relativity rules do not apply and you have to use general relativity. Most people who want ride them before they thought of it revert to getting pissed the night before which is easier science than general relativity.

I feel you are being by 'pub' science here where the application of StellaI'lltwatian Rules come into play relating to the warping of space that makes fat burds thin after a period of time. These are different rules than the ones that make you think you've done something only for your missus points out in no uncertain terms you hadn't and then you wish you could travel in time to sort it all out.

  • why not conduct the experiment on the back of a lorry doing 70mph then the neutrinos will be doing speed of light + 70 mph - simples.

Yes, I really like the fact theories can be torn down and re-examined to gain a better understanding.

No - actually BSc in Maths and Physics at Glasgow and Part III at Cantab. Thats a lot of drinking as well as a lot of Physics!
