Gear set up (Really annoyed)
Afternoon all,
I am having trouble adjusting my rear mech on my Spesh Allez Triple.
First off I want to say that the chain has only done 600 miles since new and is not at the 0.75% tolerance yet.
I have set up mechs time and time again without too much trouble, but this one is starting to make me loose my temper. I done the usual setting the High / low / B screws.
The trouble I have is getting the tension just right, I start with the chain in the biggest chain ring and the smallest cassette cog. I adjust the tension to get the upshift quick & smooth but when I achieve this the downshift is hesitant and very clunky.
When riding and downshifting its the last 3 cogs that hesitate and then really clunk down.
Does anyone else have this amount of trouble?

Bent rear mech hanger? It takes only a very, very slight bend to knock the indexing out IME.More problems but still living....0

I assume by changing down you mean problems changing to a smaller rear cog. If thats the case, its probably the gear cable sticking - most likely in the rear loop next to the mech. You could try lubrication here.0

Agree on the rear cable being the likely fault - remove / clean the cables and in particular check that the outer isn't kinked, ferrules on straight and use a smooth point to open-out the liner.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

+1 for dirty cables
9 times out of 10 when I have this problem with one of my bikes or a mates it turns out to be a sticky cableNorfolk, who nicked all the hills?

It's also worth seeing if simply lubing the chain would help. I've found that sometimes hesitant shifting is down to the chain needing a bit of attention.0
