Folks

I'm looking to get a HD cam but can't decide on which one. Don't particularly like the look of the GoPro (and the price), but a mate's got the Contour 1080p which does the job. I'd consider that, but fancy getting something different, especially with a LCD screen which would be useful.

I've found the Gnarly and Drift cameras which both seem to be the same, albeit different colours - anyone got any experience of these? The footage I've seen of them on YouTube seems to be clear, but a bit rippley (?) around the edges.

  • http://uk.oregonscientific.com/cat-Outdoor-sub-Action-Cam-prod-ATC9K-HD-Action-Camera.htmlOregon Scientific ATC9K - can be picked up for around £170 with the GPS module, comes with all the necessary mounts and is very, very good in use.

I also use mine with a Flymount attached to the top of my windsurf masts or to the booms to film windsurfing and have attached it to the pushpit guardrail of a yacht I race on so that we see what we've been up to. Excellent piece of kit.

  • Looks a fair size when you see it on the helmet - presume it's light !

Think I'd be looking for a little smaller than that though.
  • It's not particularly big and it certainly isn't heavy. I haven't checked weights against the opposition. I was more concerned with field of vision (which at 130deg gives a far more natural looking shot than the 170 or so offered by a number of cameras - remember Gopro only changed down to 130 on the HD) and the shot quality.

Oh, it also comes with a remote so you can operate it as a still or video camera from the remote.

  • I got the Gnarly although on some sites it's just called Extreme HD Camera and others the Drift but there all the same and it's awesome nice and light too you don't even notice it's there, a doddle to set up and use and has the LCD screen ya looking for.

Bought mine from Gadget Freaks "just google them" and payed £130 for the Camera, all mounts you could want, two batteries USB cable, home charger and car charger
